How to Jumpstart Your Writing Career Today!
By Matt Banner.
As writers, we want exposure, but we also want people to buy
our books. Sometimes we need to try different approaches to give our career the
jolt it needs to start moving. Today I’ll offer some tips for giving your
writing career a boost, while also polishing your skills.
The infographic below will offer a ton of tips for building
up your skills and starting your career, but sometimes you need to give a
little to get a little. Let’s dive in and discuss.
Turning Your Passion Into a Career as a Writer
If you can get someone to read one of your books, then you
have an opportunity to entice them to read the rest. Now, while many would
scoff at the idea of giving your book away for free, it’s a great
way to drum up exposure for yourself and build new fans for your future works.
You also need reviews, and you can get these without people
first reading your work. Another thing to think about is how many people will
naturally gravitate to other work from an author they like.
Finally, it’s a great way to test your skills. When you
begin working on your next book, try seeking out a resource
for writers to help you hone your skills and improve on the next
book that you’ll be charging for.
Even if you’re not charging money, you can still gain
something from giving your book away. Think about asking for people to subscribe to your email newsletter in exchange for thebook as an example.
